      • 'Rose'

In Oils 59.4 x 84.1cm. It is my interpretation of mental health struggles, with spinning mechanisms. Not everything is as it seems on the outside.

      • 'Rose'

        In oils. canvas size 59.4x84.1cm

      • 'Deconstruct Circle'

Acrylic on canvas, with wood circles attached. 20x20cm. This is an original section of a portrait I started and decided that it was not working for me, so I deconstructed the piece, resulting in my favourite section becoming a new small canvas. I felt it made an interesting painting, even as a small size.

      • 'Deconstruct'

In acrylic. 45cmx61cm. This piece came about when I was painting a portrait using raised circle discs, depicting mental health struggles, and the how moods can swing in circles. The painting wasnt working for me, so I broke the original down. I took the nose section to create a smaller piece ' Deconstruct Circle'. This inspired me to create a large Acrylic Study of it and I was happy with the result.

      • 'Jen'

Portrait in acrylic. Canvas board 45.7x61cm. My response and copy in the style of the artist Jenny Saville , focusing on her painting style, technique and use of colour . I love her bold colours for light and shade.

      • 'Cris '

Portrait in acrylic. Canvas board 45.7x61cm. My response to Cristina Troufa's style through a copy of one of her pieces; pushing me out of my comfort zone by using and highlighting negative space .

      • ' Growth of a Wave'

Sculpture in Wire, tissue, Acrylic and Inks . Canvas 59.4x 84.1cm. This was the final piece, a large wire based sculpture from a study of the progression of waves and lots of experimentation with wire forms.

      • ' Growth of a Wave'

Scuplture . Canvas 59.4 x 84.1cm. Close up image showing how different lighting can create shadows and colours that enhance the feel of movement of progresssion of wave, from base of wave, to the large break of wave. Viewing the sculpture in different lights and angles gives a feel of the wave building.

      • 'Zoe'

Gouache. A4 on Paper. Exploring abstract coloured portraiture. I made this piece to expand my use of abstract colours within my work. I looked at a combination of warm and cool tones throughout this piece .Overall, connoting a pop art feel to the piece.

      • 'Zoe' monochrome

Gouche A4 on paper. Using a monochrome palette to emphasise light and shade.

      • 'Pop'

Acrylic. Canvas Board A1. Experimental piece on canvas, using bold blocks of colour with acrylic paint, as part of series of pieces that became collages.

      • 'Beryl'

Collage Canvas Board A1. A collage for pleasure, based on study on eras that grandparents and parents lived through at my age . I specifically focused on the 1960s and early 1970s fashion trends; for example pattern and textures.

        Rose

This is a demo of how the spinning mechanisms work on the Rose painting.

      • Rose

Work in progress, you can see the scale of this piece.

      • 'Rose'

Close up to see the texture and paint detail.

      • 'Rose'

Close up and side view to see the texture and spinning mechanisms. These can only spin manually. I would love to explore further methods that could have enabled these circular discs to spin independently next time.

      • 'Rose'.

Close up during the painting process, showing how the colours were built up as the painting progressed.

      • 'Rose'

close up of the texture and oil paint during painting.

      • 'Rose'

Building up the colours using a palette similar to Jenny Savilles.

      • 'Rose'

      • 'Rose'

close up details of the texture and mark making on the 'Rose' painting.

      • Experiments with Texture.

Texture panels I created through experimentation with polyfilla and white acrylic paint. These experiments led me to create a textured base for the 'Rose' painting.

      • Experiments for 'Rose' painting, portraits using circles

These pages display my experiments which resulted in my 'Desconstruct' study along with research for my spinning mechanisms found within my piece ' Rose'.

      • Jenny Saville Artist research sample page.

These sketchbook pagesis a sample displaying my research for my painting 'Jen' which helped gain knowledge on the artist Jenny Saville's background , artworks, personal art styles and techniques.

      • Portrait in Acrylic - progress of 'Jen' painting

This image displays the piece in progress which shows the layers of acrylic paint I used to create both texture and tone across the piece.

      • Landscape collagraph - print one

This first print was made with a variety of different materials and textures, such as bubble wrap , card , recycled material scraps and string . I then printed this collagraph with a layer of black ink.

      • Landscape collagraph - print two

This second print shows a lighter greyscaled tone with highlighted darker shadowed areas within the print. I was happy with the result.

      • Landscape collagraph - print three

For this print I used red ink; once dried a worked back into the print using watercolours in a mix of red hues from dark to light.

      • Moodboard - for 'Growth of a wave'

This moodboard illustrates my initial ideas and inspiration for my piece 'Growth of a wave'.

      • 'Growth of a wave' - Maquettes and mini sculptures

Photos of practice experimental small wire maquette sculptures, made with paper and painted in acrylic inks and watercolours.

      • 'Growth of a wave' - Maquettes and mini sculptures

        Sample of my Maquettes

      • Focused image of maquette experiment for my piece 'Growth of a Wave '

Close up detail. There was a lot of wire bending and twisting to acheive the round and curling shapes. I was happy with the result of this experiment which led me to create a much larger sculpture.

      • Yayoi Kusama exhibition (SAMPLE OF MY WRITTEN WORK)

This series of photos, are pages from an exhibition booklet I created inspired by Yayoi Kusama's highly inspiring and captivating installations and paintings . I focused my exhibition on 'The struggles of mental health' researching Kusama's own struggles and how they are reflected across her works. From making and researching for this booklet discovered a love and fondness for Kusamas large scale abstract installations combined with her creative pieces with audience interaction ; overall causing unique experiences for each viewer of her highly personal works. This written study connected well with my studies around mental health for my painting 'Rose'
